Salutations,
I don't think any documentation can solely prepare you for a role; however, I think continuing to enable ignorance adds to the toxicity and creates bottlenecks, and adds to the problem:
Step 1) finish EIQ (training), ask questions ( I had a great manager and great teammates( even though most are in different Pods))
Step 2) Import these bookmarks and ensure they are easily accessible ( I use Firefox but they works in all Chromium browsers) Bookmarks: bookmarks.html
← How it should look on your bookmark bar
Step 3) Get your tools: Snipping tool, Powershell, Vsphere client, Teamviewer, OneNote, an IDE (notepad++ or VS Code), AutoHotkey (my script: autoscripts.ahk ). You will need to go to Internal for some of these unless you find your own way of getting them
Step 3.5) ADD THE GRAMMARLY EXTENSION TO YOUR WEB BROWSER! ( https://www.grammarly.com/ )
Step 4) "Get Good" at asking for help and look into Rubber-Duck debugging ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rubber_duck_debugging )
Step 5) Organize yourself - There is so much chaos in the industry, it is important to add as little as possible to the void. Know your tools and get a flow going, it is super intimidating at first but eventually, you will find a groove, hopefully, an organized one.
Step 6) Utilize Pluralsight, such a great resource with so much content it's ridiculous! I recommend if you are super green going for some certifications ( CompTia Network+ or Microsoft AZ-900), If this isn't your first rodeo or want to help, Citrix or VMware.
Step 7) Be kind and follow the golden rule
Access to ask for:
• RMM-A and RMM-B
• Mimecast Partner Portal Admin
• Calendars ( for PTO)
• Pluralsight
• Microsoft CSP
• vSpheres ( xtium especially)
• Clearlogin Admin
• TEAMVIEWER
• HEX ( Hopefully you never need to use)
• Bitwarden
• TDR Remote Desktop
• vCloud
• VROPS Server ( controversial but I could not do my job without this)
Notes:
I don't expect this all to make sense google what you don't know.
• Be kind to your team, we are all in this dirt trying to do our job and do it well.
• Politics are stupid but they exist and are a part of the game. if you find yourself in a position of some say, it's crucial to always keep face. Reputation is all one carries when working remotely.
• Internal and Security will lock you down and probably get on your nerve; that being said, they are all good dudes and are just following protocol. They will remove your privileges if they deem it a threat.
• Add Good notes whenever you can, work as a team, and document everything. Yes it takes time; but, it has saved my rear a few times on working on 12 hr+ tickets that still needed to be escalated ( Engineering and management loves good notes)
Technical notes:
• Compute does not make changes to clients' Clearlogin without specific instructions from management.
• If it is OSSmossis, Broadsoft, VPNs or UCAAS related, find someone in UCAAS to do it, work with them
• Legacy clients are tough: XTIUM, Azzaron, Webcore, Anexion, Vetanium | They are all special cases and only D & E deal with them (usually)
• Checking the Billing portal on all clients at first (It's in the bookmarks above in the Evolve Folder), once you know your clients, you know who gets what support.
• If a client doesn't have MIT (managed IT), we do not typically help with Helpdesk related issues. Check with your manager as there are some weird eggs in the basket.
• All Azzaron clients use iPortalis for new users, ask for help when using it the first time
• SYNC was the bane of my existence for a few weeks, look for documentation and take things slow.
• rule of thumb, if RMM-A we help as much as possible.
• If a client is in the VCD ( vCloud) DO NOT MAKE CHANGES IN vSphere EVER! ( unless specifically told by CE)
• Practice Powershell, with so much being in the cloud and remote, it is often the only tool for accessing otherwise unreachable places (Office 365 and Azure environments)
