Problem

When attempting to failover a VM using Zerto to vCloud, you may receive an error that the MAC address conflicts with the VMware reserved MACs.  This can happen if the VM was set with a static MAC address instead of VMware assigned, or if the VM was created directly on the host or using VMware Workstation.

Solution

Modify the NIC settings in the VPG to have it reset the MAC on failover.

  1. Open the VPG and choose Edit Settings.
  2. Click on the NICs tab, select the NIC you want to modify and choose Edit Selected in the top right.

  3. Click the drop down in the MAC Address section and choose Reset from the list.  Make sure to do this for both Test and Failover/Move if you plan on testing failover.

  4. If the VM has multiple NICs, make sure to do all of them.
