Recreating a VPG with existing settings

Below are the instructions for recreating an existing VPG. This is not to be used as a first step for troubleshooting.

  1. Log in to the ZVM VM for the recovery site; either West (LV) - ZVM-LV01 (10.32.67.8) or East (401) - ZVM-401 (10.32.65.222) using XTIUMadmin.
  2. Open the "Zerto Virtual Replication Diagnostics" tool and select "Export protection Group Settings" - This is going to export the VPG settings for each VPG on the recovery site.

  3. Select the Export location, it is defaulted to the desktop.

  4. Click Next, and the verify the VPGs have been exported.

  5. Login to the recovery site's ZVM GUI either West - https://10.32.67.8:9669/zvm or East - https://10.32.65.222:9669/zvm and removed the VPG you are recreating. Select the VPG > Actions > Delete. IMPORTANT: When removing the VPG, make sure to select "Keep Disks" as this will drastically reduce re sync time. Also make sure the customer is aware of what you are doing and you have their permission to do so. This process will cause the VPG to enter a delta sync. ALSO IMPORTANT: If a VPG was reimported into vCloud, DO NOT preseed the disk as its MoRef changed and Zerto it's recovery volume will not be recognized as part of that VM as a result.

  6. Once the VPG has finished being removed, you will go back to the ZVM VM, and use the Diagnostics tool again. This time be sure to select "Import Protection Group Settings".

  7. Browse and select the file you exported from step #3. Click Next.

  8. Allow the tool to read the config file. (This may take up to 10 minutes)

  9. Once the config has been read, select the VPG you removed and click "Next"

  10. Select the VPG again to verify you are going to import the settings. The disks you saved from earlier, as well as the VMs and IP information for each will be imported as it was before the deletion. Click "Import" and then "Finish" after the process has been completed.
  11. Log in to the ZVM GUI and verify the VPG has been recreated and is in a Delta Sync status, confirming the disks have been synced properly.
