Dear DaaS User,
If you didn't already know, DaaS stands for "Desktop as a Service" and it refers to the hosted always-on, access-anywhere service your company subscribes to that allows you to get to your computer and software. But the key here is that it's still works like a Desktop and runs on Windows, so sometimes programs have issues. In these instances, it's a great idea to know a bit of Windows First Aid. These techniques don't require you to be a computer expert and they don't take the place of your helpdesk, but they can help you speed recovery and get back to working if a software issue arises.
The first tip we can give you is to have patience! Sometimes programs are just busy. It's possible they appear stuck, so waiting for them to complete a task is a good idea before moving on to more severe measures.
Another important tip to keep in mind at all times is the DaaS is not the same as the local computer you are working on. Rebooting your desktop, mobile device, or thin client won't change the fact that there's a hung program or desktop in the DaaS.
Task Manager
After waiting, the first move when facing a stuck application should be to the Task Manager. It can be quickly accessed by either:
- Right-clicking on the Start Menu and selecting the Task Manager; or
- Clicking the Send Ctrl-Alt-Delete icon at the top of your DaaS window and then selecting Task Manager.
If a program is stuck, highlight it and then click the End Task button.
WARNING! Ending a stuck program bypasses saving your work. Be aware that if your file is not saved, work could be lost.
Resetting a Desktop
Like a real computer, Windows sometimes chokes. This is not a frequent occurrence, so if Windows locking up regularly, it is super important to get your helpdesk involved. If DaaS fails to load or is completely hung, use the DaaS client window to reset it. Go to Options on the top bar and select Reset Desktop. Wait a couple of minutes for your system to reboot. and log back in.
Just like powering off and back on a real computer, this means all programs will close without saving!
These quick tips will help you speed up troubleshooting. We hope that you continue have a fantastic experience with your DaaS platform and rarely–if ever–have to make use of these techniques.
