Requirements

Prior to install, customer must build a Windows 2008 R2 or 2012 server with admin rights.

  • Networking:  ZVM should have a static RFC1918 IP Address with access to Zerto cloud Connector server.
  • Resources: 4 GB of RAM + 2 vCPU, 30 GB Disk Space

Customer should also provision a vCenter Account in customer infrastructure ie. “zerto”,

If you are running AV on the ZVM, setup proper AV exclusions on Zerto  software folder to avoid disk and performance issues

Note: It is recommended to have Windows Update services disable, to prevent the ZVM from restarting.

Installation

To perform an express install of Zerto Virtual Replication:

  1. Dowload to the new VM from:  http://evolveip.net/downloads/zerto.zip
  2. Unzip and run the installer.
Note: If the Microsoft.NET framework 4 or 4.5 is not installed, it is installed as part of the installation.  If this is the case, after frameworks is installed, reboot the server that you are installing Zerto on, and rerun the installer
  3. Follow the wizard through the installation until the dialog for the installation Type and select the Express installation option.
  4. Click Next
The Client vCenter server Connectivity and Site Name dialog is displayed

    Specify the following:

IP / Host Name – The IP address or host name of the machine where the vCenter Server runs.

Server. The name can be entered using either of the following formats:

                username

                domain\username

Password – A valid password for the given user name.

Site Name – The name used to identify the site (Logical Display Name; CUST_NAME)

  5. Click Next
The installation performs a series of checks to make sure the installation can proceed successfully.
  6. After the checks complete successfully, click Next and continue to the end of the installation.
Note: During the installation you will see numerous tasks show up in vCenter.  This is zerto applying alarms to vCenter.
  7. Set any antivirus software running on the machine not to scan the folder where Zerto Virtual Replication is installed.

Registering Zerto

MUST USE Flash Enabled Browser.  Can just run from client PC at this point.

Pairing to the ZCC in the Cloud

  1. Login to https://IP_of_ZVM:9669 with client vCenter Credentials
  2. On the very first access to Zerto User interface, you have to register your use of ZVM, by entering the IP address to pair to a site where a license has already been entered
  3. Click on the radial button “Start by pairing to a site with a license”, input the IP address of the Zerto Cloud Connector (typically 10.200.1.201 or 10.200.2.201) that was provided by XTIUM and click Update.  (Can check this by going to ZCM (https://10.32.65.223:9989), open the clients Organization, click on the Customer Sites Tab, check the IP address of the ZCC.

Installing VRA

Requirements:

To install a VRA you require the following:

  • 12.5 GB datastore space for each
  • At least 1 GB reserved memory
  • ESX/ESXI host version 4.0 and higher
  • Ports 22 and 443 are enabled on the host during the installation

For the duration of the installation of the VRA, the ZVM enables SSH in the vCenter Server

You must also know the following information to install VRA

  • The datastore the VRA will use and the local network used by the host
  • The network settings to access the peer site; either the default gateway or the IP address, subnet and gateway
  • Recommended to use static IP

Installation

  1. In the ZVM user interface, click the Setup Tab
  2. Then click on VRAs tab to display hosts
  3. Select a host which require a VRA and click Actions and then click Install
The configure & Install VRA dialog is displayed:
Note: if you selected a cluster or multiple hosts, only the first host in the displayed list is installed.

Host: The target ESX host for the VRA

Host Root Password – The password used to access the host for the root user

Datastore – The datastore that the VRA will use for mirror virtual machines and for its journaling

Network – the network used for each VRA, typically the management network where the ESX hosts reside.

Amount of VRA RAM – Leave this field at default which should be 3 GB

VRA Group – Leave at default

  4. Click Install.
  5. Repeat the Go to Action > Install for every host.
  6. The installation starts and the status is displayed in the VRA tab
