blueprintCLOUD Lite utilizes the Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) software to access a virtual desktop experience. There are numerous free and paid apps that can use this protocol. These instructions are for the official Microsoft Remote Desktop app.
To prepare a new mobile device (phone or table running IOS or Android) to use RDP, make sure you have the latest Microsoft Remote Desktop app installed.
Follow these steps to install the Microsoft app:
- Go to the App Store or Marketplace for your particular device and search for the Microsoft Remote Desktop app; this app free.
- Install the software, following the default prompts and options.
To configure your Remote Desktop the first time, follow these steps:
- Open the RD Client app on your device.
- Tap the + symbol to add a new connection and select Add PC or Server
In the PC Name field, enter the remote desktop server name as given to you at launch (i.e. remote.mycompanydomainname.com).
This address is unique for each company.
- Tap the User Name field to add your credentials.
- Select Add User Account.
- In the User Name, enter your email address.
- It is recommneded that you do not enter your password to maintain security in case your device is ever lost or stolen.
- Tap Save.
- Tap the arrow to go back to Create Connection.
- Tap Settings.
- Give the connection a Friendly Name (i.e. "My Company Desktop").
- Tap the arrow to go back to Create Connection.
- Tap Save.
To access your Remote Desktop from your mobile device whenever you are connected to the Internet:
- Open the RD Client app on your device.
- Under My Desktops, tap the name of the connection you created.
- If prompted regarding the identity of the remote computer, check the box to Never Ask Again and click Accept.
- Log in with your normal password.
Remember to LOG OFF (using the Start menu) when you are done.
