How to Create a VPG

  1. Log into the web interface of the ZVM server
  2. From the Dashboard, Click on the VPG tab on the left-hand side of the screen
  3. Click “+ NEW VPG”, the Create VPG Window will now open.
  4. GENERAL: Name your VPG, click Next.
  5. VMs: Select which VM you plan to protect with Zerto. As part of XTIUM Best Practices, only one VM should be added to a VPG. If you require multiple VMs to be protected, please create a VPG for each specific VM. Click Next.
  6. REPLICATION: Select where to Replicate the server too, including the recovery settings for your environment. Choose the appropriate SLA profile for your VPG. Select VM Settings, in the new window popup, under the Journal Storage column, edit the current selection and change it to “Auto-Select”. Click OK to accept the change, this should close the VM Settings window. Click Next.
  7. STORAGE: Keep all options at default. If protecting a SQL server, if your SQL server has a separate drive where the Temp DB is stored, mark the drive as temp. Click Next.
  8. NICs: Check the box next to the NIC to edit. Once checked, click “Edit Selected”. Edit the Failover/Move (Live Failover) and the Test Failover IP information. Once done, click OK. Afterwards, make sure that the NICs “Connected” box is checked for the Failover/Move, then click the dropdown under View and select “Test Failover”. As part of Evolve IP’s Best Practices, Test Failover NICs should be set to NOT be connected. Click Next.
  9. RETENTION POLICY: Keep all options at default, Click Next.
  10. SUMMARY: Review all settings, once ready to create the VPG, click Done.
