Intronis is using NTBackup and Windows 2008 R2 that have to be installed.
Open Server Manager and add Features, Check Windows Server Backup and Command-Line Tools
And click next. After installation close Server Manager.
You have to have extra drive where is not running any system critical applications. For Windows 2008R2 it is recommended to have 15-20Gb free space.
In Intronis portal under Server Backup TAB click on Add Backup Set
Select System State, name your job and press next
Scheduled jobs Depend how many changes are done in your organization. New Users, changing password ….
Setup Scratch Drive and press next
On summary page press Create button
For Active Directory Server system state recovery is very important is to know Directory Service Restore Mode password what was set when Active directory was made. If you do not know what it is please use Microsoft acritical how to reset password: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/322672. Note this is not Administrators password in Active Directory.
For this test we will delete some object in AD
If Scratch Drive was damage place restore System State from Introns.
Click on Start Restore
Check System Restore and Next
Chose date
Restore to non-system drive
Click on Restore
Restored File will be in compressed please Extract Compresses Files to scratch drive
To restore System state we have to reboot Server in Active Directory Recovery Mode
When booting server press F8 until you get Advance Boot Options:
Chose Directory Services Restore Mode
Login to server using Restore Administrator password.
Open Windows Server Backup. It will take some time (5-20min) to find all restore points on your server.
Chose Recover..
This server and press next
Select the date of a backup to use for recovery.
Select System State and next
Select Original Location and next
After reboot login to the server with your Active Directory account and check if in our case Active Directory object was restored.
