DRaaS VE BaaS is a backup service built on Veeam Backup for customers with virtual workloads in Evolve IP's Virtual DataCenter (VDC). All backups are performed at the image level within the customers VDC.
Evolve IP customers with DRaaS VE can log into their self-service portal to create and run backup jobs, check backup job status, check repository free space, and complete restores of entire virtual machines (VM) and individual files.
When a backup is initiated, a snapshot is taken against the source virtual machine and then transferred from their production datastore to their backup repository. Once the virtual machine disks are done being backed up, the snapshot is removed.
When needed, the entire VM can be restored in place (overwrite) or along-side (keep) the original, as long as there are enough resources available within the VDC.
When overwriting, the source VM is first deleted from the VDC and the backup is written in its place.
When keeping the source VM, the backed up VM will be placed back into the same VDC and storage policy it was originally backed up from. Adequate space must be available within the original storage policy otherwise the restore task will fail.
